Recruitment FAQs

All our vacancies are advertised on our website. To apply complete the online application form and the Equality and Diversity Monitoring Forms via the website.

Our application form can be completed online.

Alternatively, you can email [email protected] or call 0114 2012923 to request a paper copy of the form posting out to you. We can also help you to complete the application form verbally if required.

The application form asks if you consider yourself to have a disability. We ask this in line with our disability confident commitment. If you have a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role detailed in the job description and person specification you will be invited to demonstrate your skills and abilities at interview.

The Equal Opportunities data is kept entirely separately from your application form and the data is only used for statistical purposes.

Unfortunately we are not usually able to provide feedback at application stage due to the number of applications received.

We are happy to discuss any required adjustments in relation to a disability. Below are just a few adjustment possibilities but we will liaise with you to make the appropriate adjustments.

  • Changes to the physical space for the selection process. This could include being held on the ground floor to enable easier access, and in a room with significant floor space.
  • Extra time may be given for written exercises or presentations.
  • Large print versions of instructions can be provided.
  • Instructions can be provided in different colours.
  • Presentations of exercises may be in a variety of methods e.g. verbally or written
  • Interviews may be held over Microsoft Teams or in person.
  • Questions may be repeated, or printed out to be seen during the interview.
  • You can request to visit Star House in advance of the selection process so you are comfortable with the building and its accessibility.

In some circumstances interviews will take place over Microsoft Teams, however it is usual for interviews to take place face to face in Star House.

The front of our building, accessed from Division Street, has ramped entry and double opening doors into our reception area. You’ll be met here and escorted into the building. If the interviews are being held on the first floor we have lift access if appropriate, or alternatively we can ensure the interviews take place on the ground floor if this is helpful for you.

There are braille buttons for accessing the lift.

We have a disabled doors operated by button on the ground floor, and a disabled exit accessed from the ground floor which opens onto Division Street.

There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor and third floor.

If you have mobility issues we can arrange a car parking space for you at the rear of the building. Otherwise, Wellington Street car park is very nearby, as are a number of other short stay car parks.

It depends on the role as the selection process may include a written exercise, presentation and interview. In most cases they take between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours each.

We will let you know who you will be meeting in your invitation email, but it will usually be two members of the leadership team. If the role is client facing, the panel will also include a member of our Young Advisor team.

If you have any other questions about our recruitment and selection process please email [email protected] or call 0114 2012923

The recruiting panel will usually confirm when they expect to be able to make a decision, and we call everyone who has attended interview to give them the outcome whether successful or unsuccessful. We provide feedback to you after the interview stage.

Volunteering FAQs

All our volunteering roles can be found on our website. You can apply by completing the application form, which is found underneath the volunteering role description. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

When we have your application, we’ll arrange a time to discuss our opportunities with you in more detail.

All Sheffield Futures’ volunteers who support Youth Clubs or our Wellbeing Café are required to complete pre-volunteer checks including an acceptable enhanced DBS certificate for volunteering with children and adults (which is repeated after three years) and appropriate references.

Depending on the type of opportunity, volunteers may also need to complete some relevant training before starting with us.

An observation may also be required during the first volunteer session to ensure that both you and Sheffield Futures are happy to move forward with the volunteering opportunity.
